Benjamin, if you run xrandr command mentioned in post above, you can use FN Keys for brightness too. I have set it to run automatically on log-in.

As for battery, I am not dual-booting so, I thought my battery is dying, I will have to look at it.

I have done an upgrade to Intrepid Ibex via fresh install and recently I had all the FN buttons working for about 2 days after a proposed kernel update. Unfortunately another update killed the brightness capability.

I have noticed that the laptop only seems to get about 35-45 minutes of battery time when not plugged in, have you found any solution for this issue?

I tried the posted steps in the link and it states that the tarball is obsolete in the only file that extracts (Readme). Any ideas?

The information on the setup of the wireless card has been taken down from the website you linked to. Do you happen to have copies of the How-To guide on how to set up the MadWiFi wireless???

I set mine up for dual boot and got the drivers by going through the file system. I cant remember the exact path I set up, sorry. The instructions linked in this thread worked great, and the author of that thread is a great guy who helped me out a bit in private messages.

All right, it worked! It seems that the external switch has nothing to do with the problem, which is easily solved using the madwifi drivers.

Alright, I finally got ubuntu to install as a dual boot with Vista!

@Enzo, as for the external hardware switch, I have one also, but the light does not come on when connected to the net, you will see a signal strength meter in the upper right hand corner of the screen when you are connected. Otherwise, the Madwifi drivers work like a dream!

@aqeel, tyvm for this information, it helped me out and got me back to a linux install! :D
